About Us
Papou’s Kitchen is a family-owned and operated business founded in 2008 by Chris and Niki Zoulamis. Distribution of their signature Falafel started with Whole Foods Market in Portland, Maine. With major growth imminent, Chris and Niki’s son, Dean joined Papou’s Kitchen in 2014 as Production Manager. With vigor and passion, Dean has been working on expansion beyond Maine and can now proudly say that Papou’s Kitchen is currently a leading manufacturer and wholesale distributor of falafel in New England.
Our falafel fits right into the current trend in the market place towards healthy vegetarian dishes. 10 years ago, you would find falafel secluded to middle eastern specialty stores and restaurants. In recent years though, Falafel has become one of the most popular vegetarian food items in the world. In our region, we have helped to increase its recognition in the market by supplying our product in high end grocery stores, local restaurants, colleges, , institutional cafeterias, and hospitals.

They call me “Papou”.
Greek for grandfather. My eight wonderful grandchildren, along with my love of food and my Mediterranean heritage are what inspired me to create Papou’s Kitchen.
Born in Greece, my family immigrated to the U.S. when I was seven. In my recipes, I honor the tradition of healthy Mediterranean eating, boasting back-to-the-land ingredients full of freshness and purity. Wrap that up with a love of family, community, and an old world work ethic and you have a blend I think is the best, the freshest, and the most flavorful around.
My falafel is 100% vegetarian and vegan. It’s great rolled up in a pita, with your favorite dip, as a salad topper, or as an appetizer. However you enjoy it, know it comes from my heart, and from my kitchen to yours. Thank you for trying Papou’s, and I thank my grandchildren for the love and the inspiration they’ve brought to this dream of mine. I am proud to be called “Papou”.

Cooking Instructions
Patties
Cover bottom of skillet with 1/4″ of oil. Preheat oil on low/medium setting for about 3 minutes (if oil smokes, it is too hot). Add falafel and cook for 4 minutes per side. They should be toasty brown all the way around.
Falafel Burgers
Falafel Burgers are Par baked. Place frozen burger in toaster. Set toaster to darkest setting. Enjoy!
Note:
All products should reach 165 ℉ before consuming.
